Warframe’s been fully embracing its weird side over the course of its last couple of expansions, but if you thought its mood-world westerns and long-lost dimension-shifting labs were as far as the free-to-play shooter was willing to go, then you might want to brace yourself: developer Digital Extremes has revealed first gameplay of its upcoming 1999 story expansion and, well, let’s just say you get to go into space to kill a 90s boyband.

We’ve known 1999 was likely to be an odd ‘un ever since its tease at last year’s TennoCon utterly stole the show – catapulting players away from Warframe’s usual far-future sci-fi aesthetic to an eerily familiar Earth-like world of grungy subways stations and retro tech. And now, with TennoCon 2024 underway, Digital Extremes has shared more on its audacious new expansion.

To get a few burning questions out of the way first, yes it’s really set in 1999 (New Year’s Eve to be exact) and no, this isn’t quite the Earth we know – but it’s close enough, full of extremely familiar era-appropriate artefacts that feel gleefully incongruous within Warframe’s wider world. Nintendo has announced plans for a big September in-game event for Splatoon 3, accompanied by the launch of new amiibo figurines.

Fans say this autumn’s Grand Festival will likely mark the end of new content for the paint-based shooter threequel, akin to Splatoon 2’s Final Fest – though the possibility of other, returning Splatfests remains.

Nintendo will launch four new amiibo figures on 4th September, divided into two specific packs: the Side Order Set featuring Pearl and Marina, as well as the Alterna Set featuring favourites Callie and Marie.

If you’ve been hoping for another No Mans’s Sky universe refresh, today’s your day. The exploratory space sim’s latest update is all about bringing more variety to planets – and it’s chucking in angry Starship Troopers-esque bug hunts and a flamethrower mech too.

No Man’s Sky’s new Worlds Part 1 update owes at least some of its existence to developer Hello Games’ upcoming fantasy planet sim Light No Fire. “Over the last five years making the game, ” it explains, “we’ve learnt new things, and we’re feeding that back into No Man’s Sky”.

Some of No Man’s Sky’s freshly expanded variety comes from the way its new simulated systems combine. There’s new cloud tech that creates skies based on weather conditions, with planets now featuring their own wind patterns. Water has also had a significant overhaul, featuring dynamic waves that react to weather, reflections, and improved oceans.

Just shy of two years since the release of Two Point Campus, the Two Point Studios team has begun teasing its next project, suggesting an announcement is on the horizon.
A post on the Two Point County site shared a few days ago informed the community that Two Point’s fictional and eccentric millionaire Wiggy Silverbottom was in need of some assistance.
“As you know, our beloved intrepid explorer is always on the lookout for his next adventure. So a few months ago, he assembled a team of newly graduated (so-called) experts in his field to embark on a top-secret and extremely important mission. There they made a remarkable discovery…” the site teased.
“Unfortunately, there was a slight hiccup before this discovery reached its destination… the whole thing went missing! This caused quite a stir, as you’d imagine.”

Sony has opened up the early access beta for its upcoming 5v5 sci-fi shooter Concord to all PlayStation Plus users.
Initially, this beta access was only going to be available to those who had already pre-ordered the game (you can find out more about the editions available and pricing in Matt’s story here).
Those in the UK interested in trying out the early access beta can get it pre-downloaded from 6pm this evening (11th July). It will then be available to play from 6pm tomorrow, with cross play support for PS5 and PC. Sony said PS Plus users should look out for the option to download and play the Concord beta when they start up their PlayStation 5s.
