Pre-orders for the limited edition PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary range will come with an extra layer of scalper protection in Japan, Sony has said, following the rampant relisting of consoles with exorbitant prices on eBay seen elsewhere.

Japanese PlayStation fans can now place pre-orders for the 30th Anniversary collection but require a PlayStation Network account with at least 30 hours’ worth of play to be eligible. This is different to the method elsewhere, where any PSN account could be used.

In Japan, fans have far longer to register a pre-order – from now until midnight on Monday 14th October – to reduce queuing issues.

Developer Riot has issued a statement to distance itself from a strike by SAG-AFTRA actors’ union members against its League of Legends game.
Last night, the actor’s union called a strike against Riot’s online game due to its connection to Formosa Interactive LLC. Formosa Interactive is a production company involved in making League of Legends, and one which SAG-AFTRA has accused of trying to “subvert the video game strike”, which was announced in July.
The union’s press release stated Formosa – which has also worked on the Call of Duty series, Zelda and God of War, among others – attempted to “cancel” one of its games affected by the SAG-AFTRA video game strike in order to continue with non-union actors.
Since then, Riot has issued its own statement, writing “League of Legends has nothing to do with the complaint mentioned” by SAG-AFTRA.

Its release has been suspected for some time, with PlayStation indie boss Shuhei Yoshida eyeing up the game shortly after its release earlier this year. Then, back in June, Palworld’s community manager teased a PS5 version.

Now we know it’s not only real, but available right now.

Ahead of the release of Final Fantasy 16 on PC last week, producer Naoki Yoshida asked fans to not mod “anything offensive or inappropriate” into the game.
So far, modders have been pretty well-behaved, but Clive voice actor Ben Starr has of course made it into the game. I was expecting his face to be put on Clive’s model (there’s still time for that), but instead it’s his glowing face from The Game Awards that’s been added to Clive’s cape.

EA has announced plans to move “beyond linear, sequential Sims releases” that’ll see it forego a direct Sims 4 “replacement” – that is, a The Sims 5 – in favour of a new approach enabling players to keep their progress between titles and “really [have] an ongoing experience”.

EA’s initially discussed its new strategy for the long-running life sim series in an extensive blog post, but The Sims franchise general manager Kate Gorman later shared additional context in an interview with Variety. “The way to think about it is, historically, The Sims franchise started with Sims 1 and then Sims 2, 3, and 4. And they were seen as replacements for the previous products,” Gorman explained. “[But now,] we are not going to be working on replacements of previous projects; we’re only going to be adding to our universe.”

“What this means is that we will continue to bring HD simulation experience and what people would want from a 5,” Gorman continued, “but it doesn’t mean that we’re going to start you over… As we think about the future of it, we want you to continue all of those families and generations. Those creations are your progress, your attachment. We don’t w…

Palworld developer Pocketpair says it is “not changing [Palworld’s] business model”, assuring players it will “remain buy-to-play and not free-to-play or games-as-a-service”.
The company was forced to clarify its position after a recently-published interview led some players to believe the team was considering adopting a live service model.

PlayStation’s shock decision to shut down its live-service flop Concord just a fortnight after launch has spurred players who did buy the game to try and reach its max level via an unusual method – before it all disappears.

Players are now leaping off cliffs to end matches and earn XP at rapid pace, with a healthy chunk of XP awarded whether a team wins or loses. If Concord was set to last longer, it feels like something developer Firewalk would fix. Now, not so much.

Why are Concord owners so concerned with reaching the game’s max level of 100? Well, you need to do so to unlock the “Experienced Freegunner” Trophy, and by extension the game’s Platinum. Regardless of whether Concord ever returns after Sony pulls the plug and issues refunds, players will have that award – for now, likely one of the rarest Platinum Trophies available – on their profile permanently.
