Palworld developer Pocketpair says it is “not changing [Palworld’s] business model”, assuring players it will “remain buy-to-play and not free-to-play or games-as-a-service”.
The company was forced to clarify its position after a recently-published interview led some players to believe the team was considering adopting a live service model.

PlayStation’s shock decision to shut down its live-service flop Concord just a fortnight after launch has spurred players who did buy the game to try and reach its max level via an unusual method – before it all disappears.

Players are now leaping off cliffs to end matches and earn XP at rapid pace, with a healthy chunk of XP awarded whether a team wins or loses. If Concord was set to last longer, it feels like something developer Firewalk would fix. Now, not so much.

Why are Concord owners so concerned with reaching the game’s max level of 100? Well, you need to do so to unlock the “Experienced Freegunner” Trophy, and by extension the game’s Platinum. Regardless of whether Concord ever returns after Sony pulls the plug and issues refunds, players will have that award – for now, likely one of the rarest Platinum Trophies available – on their profile permanently.

New gameplay footage from Slitterhead has dropped from PAX West, and once again, Slitterhead is really emphasising the fact you can play as a dog.
We first got a good look at Bokeh Studio’s Slitterhead last summer when a developer diary revealed new details about its inaugural title, including a sneaky peek at some of the game’s enemies, abilities, and – surprise! – the ability to play as a dog, something reprised in leaked footage in June, too.

Join us to watch today’s Indie World & Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, live at 3pm UK time. (That’s 7am Pacific, or 10am Eastern.)

Stand down your expectations of seeing more Zelda or Metroid Prime – or Switch 2. Today’s event will instead spotlight upcoming Nintendo Switch games from third-party publishers, as well as indie developers. The show is set to run for around 40 minutes.

Will Silksong be there? Probably not. But we’re hopeful we may see more of The Plucky Squire, out in September. What else could we see? Other upcoming titles set for Switch include Sonic X Shadow Generations in October, plus the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection and Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed in September.
